Tales of lost treasures and 'wealth beyond the dreams of avarice' - 12 stories from Blackwood's Magazine, published during the last hundred years from the date of this publication - first edition of this collection ; ex-library copy with ticket removal paper-rubs to front e/paper and dulled to closed-edge of pages but with a decent clean.

Algernon Blackwood is one of my favorite authors of the supernatural and this collection together with his Tales of Mysterious and Macabre is a great collection for any horror fan to have. A note on the edition I purchased - it is the reprint of the original edition by Spring Books and comes in a /5(17).

Blackwood is more of a spiritualistic even perhaps animistic writer, and his works are not dark like Lovecraft's, but still very much worth reading.

He tends to focus more on discovery and understanding, and less on conflict and fear. Good book/5(2). This is probably worth a look, but Baldick's Oxford Book of Gothic Tales, in which he draws on a wider range of materials than Blackwood's, and beyond the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, is /5.
